My Shaky Hands

One side effect of my medication is that my hands are always shaking. The shakes bother me because they have limited my career options, and it is hard for me to do certain tasks. My shaky hands always make me look like I am either sick, have had too much caffeine, or just really nervous.

Overwhelmed by the Election

I have felt overwhelmed by the last few presidential elections. There are only two options and voting third parties does not make much of a difference, so one would think that the election would not be overwhelming but that would be wrong. Both parties are pushing far into  opposite directions that the middle ground often gets overlooked. There have been elections where I did not like either candidate, I was stuck between picking the lesser of two evils. It felt like picking either pistachio or dog poop flavor ice cream,  I don't like them both but there is one that is far worse.

Bouncy Ball Salad

When I was a kid, my friend Nancy, my family, and I were visiting our friends, Dominique, and Mary, in Charlotte, North Carolina. While we were there we went to a CiCi’s Pizza for some lunch. We stuffed our faces with salad, pasta, and pizza, the macaroni and cheese pizza was my favorite. After we ate, my friends, Nancy, Dominique, my sister Aly, and I went to play in the restaurant’s arcade. While playing in the arcade, I happened to win a bouncy ball. Meanwhile, a man in a suit had just come into CiCi's pizza and got himself a salad with dressing on it. While he was eating his salad, I wondered how far I could throw my bouncy ball.

If I Could Go to Mars

If I had the opportunity to go to Mars, I would not go. Mars is just a bunch of red dirt and rocks but Earth is full of life. Since I am not good with technology, I do not believe that I would be helpful. There is nothing to do on Mars besides collecting rocks and dirt. My mental health would definitely suffer. I would miss my family and friends way too much. At this point in time, humanity does not have the technology to terraform Mars into a habitable planet. Unless I was the very first person to land on Mars, like Neil Armstrong was with the moon, I would probably not be remembered in any history books. The only evidence of life on Mars are microbial life forms, so it would be very lonely there.

Are Standardized Tests a Good Way to Measure Intelligence?

I do not believe that standardized tests are a good way to measure intelligence.  Giving out standardized tests is like expecting a goldfish to climb a tree or a squirrel to swim in the ocean because, not everyone processes information the same way.  There are people who are smart but are just not good at taking tests.  Some people get test anxiety which could result in them not doing very well and/or could miss one or several of the key questions of the exam. There are also different types of intelligence including intellectual, emotional, and cultural. Many people do not even have a safe place to study. People come from all sorts of different backgrounds, meaning that the information in one's mind varies from person to person.

Why Earthly Immortality is Bad

Earthly immortality is never dying and being stuck in your earthly body forever. Christian immortality is that when your earthly body dies, you go to heaven and be with God forever. There is also reincarnation where you live multiple lives which is different from earthly immortality. Earthly immortality is a very dangerous thing. There are many downsides to earthly immortality. The good news is that you would be able to live long enough to accomplish everything that you want to do but eventually, you would live long enough to get bored of being alive because you would have done everything that you could have possibly done. Being immortal is an isolating feeling because you would outlive everyone you have ever cared for. You're more likely to lose your morality because you would possibly become numb to all the tragic events that you would have to live through. It is very likely that you would develop a God complex and think that you’re better than everyone else. After a while the government would deem you to be dangerous and track you down. Once they track you down, they would probably use you for scientific research.  You would be seriously worried about what you're going to do when the end of the universe comes. If everyone knew that you were immortal, you would never have peace and quiet because people would constantly be bothering you trying to find out your secret. You would be stuck in a world full of sin. If everyone had the opportunity to be immortal, then the earth would become way too crowded so somehow, people would still need to die in order to keep the population under control. Because of the massive increase in population, there would be way more pollution. Government officials would probably take advantage of the power of immortality. Finally, everyone would be way too focused on themselves.

Dear Public Schools

Why do you not teach stuff that we will actually use? The only time I have ever used trigonometry in my adult life was in college. The thing is that not everyone goes to college. In my adult life, knowing that "the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell" has never helped me in any way, shape, or form. Now I do understand why some Math like decimals are needed and that English and History are absolutely necessary. I was not taught a lot of useful things that I would need to function in the world like, how to do my taxes, how to take care of my mental health, or even how to find a job. Stuff that would have been good to know before I entered adulthood. There needs to be more government classes so that, people can better understand current issues, events, and how our government works. When teaching history, the effects that historical events have on society should be discussed. Standardized tests should not exist because they do not often measure a student's knowledge on any given subject because not every student is a good test taker. When I was in school, I would memorize facts for a standardized test and then forget a lot of them the following summer.

How I relate to my Chinese Zodiac sign

My Chinese Zodiac sign is the Ox. The characteristics associated with the Ox are diligence, dependability, strength, and determination, which are some of my characteristics. I am dependable when it comes to being on time and a lot of the time, I am early but, If I am running late I will let the person that I am meeting know. I was determined to get my college degree despite having chronic migraines although, I did have a case of Senioritis for the last year or so. When my mom was on life support (do not worry, she recovered), I was mentally strong enough to take care of things around the house. Before my grandma Judy passed away, I was mentally strong enough to take good care of her. I used to be very diligent in certain areas of my life but now, It is way harder to do so because of the brain fog that sometimes occurs with my migraines. There are certain elements in the Chinese Zodiac that are associated with each year. For example, since I was born in 1997, I am a fire Ox. A fire Ox is a person who is clever versatile, but lacks sympathy. I am clever but I am not versatile and I do not lack sympathy

My thoughts on Criminal Justice and Prison Reform

The United States has one of the largest prison populations in the world. America is lagging behind other nations when it comes to criminal justice and prison reform. Human rights violations happen daily inside U.S. prisons. Something needs to be done so that prisoners are treated humanely and so that there are less inmates in the United States. Here are some of my thoughts on criminal justice and prison reform.
