If I had the opportunity to go to Mars, I would not go. Mars is just a bunch of red dirt and rocks but Earth is full of life. Since I am not good with technology, I do not believe that I would be helpful. There is nothing to do on Mars besides collecting rocks and dirt. My mental health would definitely suffer. I would miss my family and friends way too much. At this point in time, humanity does not have the technology to terraform Mars into a habitable planet. Unless I was the very first person to land on Mars, like Neil Armstrong was with the moon, I would probably not be remembered in any history books. The only evidence of life on Mars are microbial life forms, so it would be very lonely there.
I am not saying that space travel is not important but Earth is great. I would rather focus my attention on making Earth a better place rather than abandoning it for Mars. The planet Mars has a lot of potential but right now, Earth is the only accessible planet that has everything that humanity needs to live. It would also take nine months for someone to travel to Mars. I would definitely go stir-crazy being stuck inside a small spaceship for that long. NASA would probably find me too mentally unstable to travel to Mars in the first place.
